It was greater than I imagined. My first thought was, Where am I going to store this thing?!? And indeed, which was before we remodeled our kitchen, so storage WAS a challenge. A crock pot got booted out of the cabinet to create room for my new appliance.
I Then took the instruction manual. I had been immediately confused. It was like reading Chinese. Oh. It was Chinese. The manual has a number of different languages printed. Once I came across the English section, things were slightly better; although, it did take reading over several sections several times to truly know the way all the parts and buttons worked.
I knew the only way through that manual ended up being to actually plug my Best Reviews Website in and use it! Maybe wild rice was a safe choice. Sure enough, it worked and decrease the cooking time! (Truthfully, the recipe worked just fine for me personally, but others have used it since and possess reported there was lots of liquid left. A lot more like soup than rice, although the rice was cooked nicely; they simply were required to drain it.)
I understood making bone broth. Which had been not so difficult. And That I definitely loved lacking my crock pot tied up for 3 or 4 to 5 days while my broth simmered. Yet, I couldnt seem to get past bone broth and wild rice.
Learning How To Use My Instant Pot – I truly dont remember the first thing I attempted. Maybe it was brown rice? Honestly, I dont remember the actual way it turned out. (It had been probably fine, or I could have been really discouraged.) I recall being really impressed at how quickly whatever it absolutely was cooked. I have done use the Manual setting, so it was my first time actually pressure cooking.
But I also remember being somewhat confused through the instruction manual. So confused, in fact, i dont have any idea where instruction manual is anymore Learning by watching and doing thats the way i prefer it. When my buddy Wardee announced her Pressure Cooking eCourse, I had been saved! Finally! I was able to WATCH and LEARN how to use my Instant Pot!
The tricks and tips I learned from the Pressure Cooking eCourse changed everything. I didnt know you could actually put dishes within the Instant Pot I didnt know what the trivet thing-y was forUntil Wardee showed me! (More on this in a minute!)
When Things Begun To Turn AroundI remember it as being if this was yesterday
My husband was coming home for lunch. I needed remembered to thaw the stew meat, but neglected to place it in the crock pot for beef stew. Once I glanced in the clock that read 11:07 and that he will be the place to find eat out at noon uh-oh, I used to be in trouble! What was I planning to do regarding the stew? Little else was thawed! We had no leftovers!
So I improvised. I really started adding my personal favorite spices (cumin, chili powder, garlic) for the meat, used the Saute feature, then pressure cooked it and prayed it could end up. And it did! Not merely did I make lunch in 53 minutes, I made beef stew in 53 minutes! Plus it was delicious! That does that??? Me! From that moment on, I knew Id be all right. My Instant Pot has developed into a trusted kitchen friend that Ive since used to create more lunches and dinners in a hurry.
Issues With The Instant Pot
A list of pros far outweighs the list of cons, but it wouldnt be a sincere report on the Instant Pot without full disclosure from the negatives, too, would it? In my opinion, these are the basic top 4 problems with the Instant Pot:
#1 Smells – The rubber seal in the lid seems to really hold onto smells from whatever was previously cooked. For that longest time, my rubber seal smelled like cumin and chili powder due to a big batch of beans I cooked. It had a very distinct Tikka Masala smell after cooking Tikka Masala. We never noticed any off tastes in the foods, but the smell was definitely present. We were also hand-washing then because this was before we remodeled our kitchen and set in a dishwasher.
Now that were washing both the stainless pot as well as the rubber seal inside the dishwasher, you can find no smells! If youre hand-washing, perhaps a long soak in baking soda for that rubber seal will be the ticket to smell-removal? I recommend keeping an additional seal or 2 on hand just in case.
#2 ?Too Full = Sputtering Bean Liquid Everywhere. I sprouted about 4 cups of chickpeas to help make my Sprouted Kale Hummus. Needless to say, I wanted to prepare all the beans at the same time, and so i figured it might get it done quicker within the Instant Pot. Unfortunately, 4 servings of swollen beans this type of water necessary to cover were just too much inside the pot. Bean liquid was dripping zecsbq in the catch on the back and sputtering out from the pressure valve. It made a HUGE mess. Granted, I was utilizing a 6-quart Instant Pot. I am just fairly confident the 8-quart Instant Pot would handle larger amounts of foods far more cleanly.
#3 Youre gonna want 2. I promise. As soon as you see how awesome the Instant Pot is, youre likely to use it all. the. time. And then you?e likely to wish to double up. I learned this the difficult way once i made Instant Pot Yogurt the very first time. Poor me. I needed to travel without my Instant Pot for a couple of stinkin days! Ive since ordered the 8-quart! I have a friend who actually has 3 Instant Pots!
